Trauma Insurance - New Zealand

Trauma insurance was invented in the 70s by Dr Marius Barnard who was in the team that did the 1 st ever heart transplant. The patient got to live another 10 years with his new heart but he was financially bust. He had a life insurance policy but it was of no use to him. He was destitute, with no income, and slowly fading health. He died destitute. Dr Barnard felt guilty, saving his life, but handing him a life of financial misery. So he invented Trauma insurance so that when you have a major health catastrophe you get some money to help you through the hard time.
